Gold and Bronze medals at the World Championships.

FINALS DAY – GOLD FOR IRELAND IN MEN’S PAIRS

Adam McKeown & Gary Kelly produced a 5-star performance to add gold to the bronze won by the Men’s triple yesterday. Playing against home favourites Aaron Teys and Aaron Wilson in true Australian conditions, with Greens running at almost 20 seconds for the second day running, they proved too strong. The Australians opened an early 3-0 lead, but Adam and Gary soon took control to lead 8-3. A count of 5 on the 11th end put the Irish pair 7 up, and they maintained this advantage until the 17th end when the Aussies shook hands.

This is a great achievement for Irish Bowls with Kelly winning his first World title and Mckeown adding a World gold to his Commonwealth Fours Gold at the age of 23.
